Dr Tracey Marr recently led a European funded project (under the Leonardo da Vinci programme) supporting disabled entrepreneurs and carers become self-employed in the countries of the UK, Italy and Latvia. The 18-month project titled the ‘Consortium for Enterprise Outreach' (CEO) was a pilot scheme that aimed to increase the availability of accessible and accredited education to teach enterprise to the target group. The project supported around 20 disabled individuals and/or carers from each country. The programme provided access to the enterprise education programme (for a year) through email delivery with support from disability-aware business mentors. The CEO programme was adapted from the business support programme originally developed by Business Boffins in association with the Business School at Oxford Brookes University. The CEO project encompassed working with a wide variety of organisations including the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), Business Link (UK), a high profile national organisation Apeirons (Latvia) promoting greater integration of disabled individuals in society and Conform-Conzorzio Formazione Manageriale (Italy) promoting the managerial and entrepreneurial culture in Italy. The CEO project was also recently nominated at European level for a quality award under the Copenhagen Process. The European Commission held a Ministerial Conference in Helsinki in December 2006 where 10 projects received a Quality Award. Although not chosen on this occasion to receive an award, CEO was nominated in recognition of competences and qualifications including EC Vocational Education and Training. The CEO project is now listed on page 25 in a compendium titled “50 success stories – Leonardo da Vinci Community programme – innovative projects contributing to the Copenhagen Process – linking policy to practice”click here To find out more about the CEO project click here
