The Hamilton Project

In association with Business Boffins Ltd, Oxford Brookes University and the Royal Marines, CiB has launched the Hamilton Project, a business support programme for those leaving the armed services.

The project was launched at an introductory workshop at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM), Lympstone in Devon in May 2006. Ex-Marines benefited from an introductory workshop with seminars delivered by business mentors. The initial learning material (16 modules, fact sheets and associated templates) was provided on CD-ROM, with further material delivered weekly via email.

On-going support

Further workshops were held over the year on a quarterly basis at the CTCRM, Lympstone in Devon. The workshops provided the opportunity for the ex-Marines to access further face-to-face business mentoring as they were planning their businesses. The workshops provided the opportunity for new recruits to join the Hamilton project.

Phase 2

In Autumn 2007, we will cast the recruitment net much wider with a focus on personnel leaving the Naval Services due to medical reasons – either injury or chronic illness.  This will clearly have a ‘cross over’ with our other projects supporting disabled entrepreneurs.

The Hamilton Project is a pilot project in association with the Royal Marines. During Phase One, CiB with Business Boffins will deliver a number of workshop training sessions (with seminars) in addition to providing full educational support and mentoring to ex-Royal Marines. Phase Two will continue to provide support for Royal Marines but will also roll out the programme to a wider group, including those who leave the forces due to medical reasons.
